Scoil Eoin Phóil II Naofa narrowly defeated in Group A Football Shield Final

Edenderry Boys School 3-10 (16)      Scoil Eoin Phóil Naofa Tullamore      2-7 (11)

An end to end Allianz Cumann na mBunscol encounter that lit up Bord na Móna O’Connor Park on Wednesday afternoon saw Edenderry Boys’ School lift the Group A shield, their efforts led by Killian Foran at centre forward and man of the match Declan Osagie at midfield.

Osagie was particularly prominent in the first half when he showed his prowess from dead balls and from general play to help his side into a 1-2 to 0-0 lead, his goal finished from fifteen metres out after a stunning catch and run from the centre forward slot.

Despite a brave effort from Calum Hurst in the Edenderry goal, Sean Flynn got Scoil Eoin Phóil back in the game with a close range goal and the tie was well in the balance at half time, with Edenderry leading 1-4 to 1-2.

Foran and Osagie pointed for the Reds at the start of the second half and when Foran looped a shot into the top corner of the Tullamore net, they seemed well poised to push on.

Scoil Eoin Phóil defender Adam Harvey pushed forward and grew more influential at midfield, Niall Furlong struck a long range goal from a free and when Cillian Wynne hooked over a point under pressure, the tie was there to be won for either side.

It fell to Cillian Tallon to wrap up the win however, as he pounced on a breaking ball and slipped an accurate shot into the roof of the net to seal the win for his team.
